WHAT IS THE METER CHANGE-OUT / AMI PROGRAM?
This required system wide program will replace existing water meters (inside) and replace remote devices (outside) with a new type system (MIU) allowing the Authority to obtain readings using radio frequency technology.
HOW DOES THE METER READING SYSTEM WORK?
Each remote transmits the reading to our strategically placed collection system throughout our system. The reading is then sent back to our main office. Each meter has a unique identification number that insures that only your reading is being assigned to your account. Your account will continue to be billed in the manner that it is presently. The meter reading system will improve service to all of our customers by eliminating estimated meter readings.
IS THERE A COST TO OUR CUSTOMER?
There is no cost to our customer for the upgrade. West View Water Authority is responsible for the installation, inlet and outlet meter couplings, meter and remote (MIU) device. It is the customer's responsibility to maintain their plumbing in good condition.
WHO WILL BE INSTALLING THE UPGRADE?
West View Water Authority has hired a professional installer, VSI Meter Services who has the expertise to undertake this project. All field technicians will have appropriate photo identification, be professionally dressed and vehicles will be recognizable. You may call the contractor or West View Water Authority to confirm that the contractor is working in your neighborhood.
DO I HAVE TO BE HOME FOR THE UPGRADE WORK?
Since the actual water meters are located inside your home or building, you will need to be present during the installation. We ask that you please maintain access to our water meter.
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO AS A CUSTOMER TO MAKE THE INSTALLATION SMOOTHER?
Please keep the installation appointment as scheduled. Someone 18 years or older is present during the installation and finally, make sure our installer has adequate access to the (inside) meter.
WHAT WORK IS INVOLVED AT MY PROPERTY?
Generally, the meter technician will locate your actual (inside) meter, remove the old type and install with a new meter electronic meter register. He will remove the old remote (outside) and replace with a MIU, low powered RF transmitter. The technician will obtain a reading from the meter and remote that he removed. He is responsible to clean up the work area and show you the readings he recorded on his work order. Please note that when you sign the work order, verify that the readings are correct.
HOW LONG SHOULD THE INSTALLATION UPGRADE TAKE?
Under normal circumstances, the installation will take approximately 30 minutes. The water will be turned off for about 5-10 minutes until the meter is changed. Dewatering your line may result in some trapped air or slight discoloration in the water supply. This is normal and will clear after running your water for a few minutes.
DOES THIS MEAN NO MORE METER READERS?
No, you will still see us in your neighborhood, just not as often. West View Water Authority service personnel will visit your property for routine service, maintenance or repair. We will continue to respond to water emergencies.
WILL THE RADIO INTERFERE WITH MY TELEVISION, CORDLESS PHONE OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES?
No, the radio transmissions occur on a licensed frequency very different from those used by television signals, cordless phones and other electronic devices. There are no risks or hazards from the equipment.
